ABOUT GEORGIA
Georgia is a sovereign state in the Caucasus region of Eurasia. Located
at the crossroads of Western Asia and Eastern Europe, it is bounded to the west
by the Black Sea, to the north by Russia, to the south by Turkey and Armenia,
and to the southeast by Azerbajjan. The Capital of Georgia is Tbilisi. Georgia
covers a territory of 69,700 km2 and its population is almost
4.7million. Georgia is a unitary, semi-presidential republic, with the
government elected through a representative democracy.
Ethnic Georgians call themselves Kartvelebi, their land Sakartvelo -
meaning 'a land of kartvelians', and their language Kartuli. Georgia is a
member of the Council of Europe and the GUAM Organization for Democracy and
Economic Development. The growing U.S.A. and European Union influence in
Georgia, notably through proposed EU and NATO membership.
ABOUT TBILISI, GEORGIA
Tbilisi in some countries also known by its former foreign name Tiflisi,
is the capital and the largest city of Georgia, lying on the banks of the Kura
River with a population of approximately 1.5 million people. Founded in the 5th
century AD by Vakhtang I Gorgasali, the monarch of the Kingdom of Iberia,
Tbilisi since served as the capital of various Georgian kingdoms and republics.
Tbilisi is located in the South Caucasus at 41° 43' North Latitude and
44° 47' East Longitude. The city lies in Eastern Georgia on both banks of the
Mt'k'vari River. The elevation of the city ranges from 380–770 metres above sea
level (1,250–2,530 ft) and has the shape of an amphitheatre surrounded by
mountains on three sides. To the north, Tbilisi is bounded by the Saguramo
Range, to the east and south-east by the Iori Plain, to the south and west by
various endings (sub-ranges) of the Trialeti Range.
Georgian American University is established in 2001. The building of the
university is spacious and situated in the capital city. The 6,000 sqm building
contains large classrooms, a modern library/computer center, café, gym,
auditoriums and a theater. This, together with expansive grounds creates a
pleasant and productive academic environment. Most of the hospitals are in the
city and country which are connected to the univeristy. Undergraduate MD
program at Georgian American University (GAU) is a 6 year (360 ECTS) medical
program designed to meet the challenges of training competitive and highly
qualified doctors for the 21st century. The goal of the MD program is to train
and develop knowledgeable, competitive doctors committed to lifelong learning
in accordance with international standards set by World Federation for Medical
Education. Medical Degree Program of Georgian American University, Tbilisi is
recognized by Medical Council of India (MCI) & WHO, after screening test
under INDIAN MEDICAL COUNCIL ACT, 1956.

MD Physician Degree of this university is equivalent to MBBS degree

COURSES
The college curriculum is in line with the European Medical Studies and
it is in full English medium. 360 credit points- 75 credit points are required
each year.

Nearabout 1200 Indian students are taking medical education in the
university. Among the students approximately 500 students are Indian girls.
